When memory foam is heated by our natural body temperature it is reshaped by the heat source. Visco-Elastic has higher density then regular foams and is made of cells, which open and close to adjust to body weight and temperature. In normal temperatures memory foam is firm but when you lay down it reacts to your body temperature and is designed to mould to your body, cradling you in comfort and support. Body weight can then be distributed evenly, which can relieve uncomfortable pressure points and allow you to sleep in a more orthopedically correct position with less tossing and turning.
Viscoelastic memory foam mattresses and toppers allow the bed to actually mould to your body, eliminating pressure points. Pressure points are the areas on the body that press hardest into the bed. For example, if you're a side sleeper, your shoulder is your biggest pressure point. Normally, it bears much of the weight of your body. A viscoelastic foam mattress or topper allows your shoulder to sink deep into the pad, while hips and other areas are still supported. Not only does this eliminate pressure points that cause restless sleep, numbness and poor circulation, it also has huge benefits for the spine, allowing vertebrae to be aligned naturally, which reduces back pain.

The foam is made up of a very high density of individual cells and the real key to how they work is that they are heat-sensitive. When you use a traditional mattress some parts of your body are closer to the mattress than others and will feel differing degrees of pressure applied to it. But because the cells of a memory foam topper or mattress are heat sensitive the heat from those parts of your body in contact with it will tell the foam to relax and give underneath you where you need it to. So the foam conforms to your body and all parts of your body remain evenly supported. Every time you turn during sleep the foam “remembers” its original state and then conforms to the new position you are in.
